Local Business Owner and NCSB Customer Happy to Call the North Country Home
North Country Savings Bank (NCSB) customer Nathan LaFaver of Madrid, N.Y. is a proud North Country resident and business owner. LaFaver, who is the owner of LaFaver's Painting LLC, decided to stay and make a life in the North Country after growing up in the region to be close to his family.
Nathan LaFaver took over ownership of the painting business from his father, Dave LaFaver, approximately five years ago. Prior to owning the business, Nathan grew up painting with his father during summers off from school and has officially been part of LaFaver's Painting for 13 years.
"I'm proud to be from the North Country," LaFaver said. "I'm proud to serve the people in this area—being in business for a lot of years you get to know everyone and it feels like family."
As owner of LaFaver's Painting LLC, LaFaver runs the business operations, hires and manages employees, and handles all day-to-day projects. Some of the services LaFaver's Painting LLC offers include interior and exterior painting—residential and some commercial—power washing, interior sheetrocking, wallpaper removal, and cabinet restoration.
"It's neat because the community is tight-knit, sometimes we go from door-to-door doing different jobs," LaFaver said. "We could paint one house on a street in Potsdam or Canton then get three or four more on the same street."
Although LaFaver is fortunate to live and work in the North Country, he considers it a challenge to navigate the weather.
"The North Country is a hard area to survive in," LaFaver said. "We have to be creative with our work sets, so we focus on interior painting in the fall/winter, along with cabinet restoration projects and exterior painting in the spring/summer."
For his business and personal banking, LaFaver chose NCSB. LaFaver chose to bank with NCSB upon the recommendation of his parents who have banked with NCSB for years and is coming up on two decades of being a loyal NCSB customer.
"A really nice feature NCSB has is online banking and bill paying," LaFaver said. "It's very helpful when it comes to operating a business. Although, when I do go into the bank I like the personal connections—they know me by name and that's why I'm with them."
When LaFaver is not working you can find him golfing in the warmer months and snowmobiling throughout the winter. LaFaver enjoys golfing in Canton and Potsdam, and some of his go-to snowmobile spots are Cranberry Lake and the Tug Hill area.
As a local business owner, LaFaver believes in doing the best work possible to support the North Country communities. He respects other small business owners in the region and values the unique family atmosphere they share.
"I enjoy the small hometown feel in the North Country," LaFaver said. "I always joke with our customers that it's like 'Cheers' where everyone knows your name."
