What is an Overdraft?
An overdraft occurs when there is not enough money in your checking account to cover a transaction. North Country Savings Bank can help cover your overdrafts in two different ways:
- Standard overdraft practices that come with your account, which covers checks and automatic bill payments. This does not cover debit card transactions. If you would like to authorize North Country Savings Bank to pay overdrafts on debit card purchases, fill out the form below.
- An Overdraft Protection Plan, such as a link to a savings account, which can cover the cost of the overdraft and be less expensive than our standard practices. Contact us to learn more about this plan.
Fees Charged with Overdrafts
North Country Savings Bank will charge you a fee up to $25.00 each time we pay an overdraft. In addition, we will charge your account a $5.00 per day "overdraft service charge". We will start charging the "overdraft service charge" on the first business day after 12 calendar days that your account is overdrawn and will continue to charge the "overdraft service charge" for each consecutive business day your account remains overdrawn.
There is no limit on the total fees North Country Savings Banks can charge you for overdrawing your account.
What is Overdraft Privilege?
Avoid costly charges from merchants for returned checks and the embarrassment and inconvenience of denied purchases and dishonored checks with overdraft privilege (ODP). Overdrafts for ATM withdrawals and certain debit card purchases are not covered without your authorization and your transactions may be declined unless you complete the Overdraft Protection Form.
Payment of occasional and inadvertent overdrafts up to your assigned limit of $800 or $1,500 will normally be considered. Our fees will be added to any outstanding overdrafts you may have and will be applied against your ODP limit.
North Country Savings Bank does not guarantee authorization and payment on every type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay the fee, your transaction will be declined.
Overdraft Protection Form
North Country Savings Bank will not authorize or pay overdrafts for certain types of transactions unless you meet the qualification criteria and complete the Overdraft Protection Form.
Overdraft Notification Form
North Country Savings Bank alerts customers via mail if an account has more than six (6) overdraft fees charged in a 12 month period. To stop receiving these notices or to reenroll if you have previously opted out, complete our Overdraft Notification Form.
